Last Game & Commentary

Personal Thoughts:

That last game turned into a nail-biter... and once again the refs helped. At least 3 times during the game, including that final touchdown by pittsburgh, the play clock reached zero, and the refs didn't call it. Of course, it happened to us only once and they called it. Any, some can say that the season was not a total loss. Beating pittsburgh almost salvages it. It's the "Go Navy, Beat Army," philosophy. Don't let people try to down play what the actual accomplishment was. That was Pittsburgh's starting defense that we ran up 27 points against. Of course, we still have weak corners and big ben might have made a difference there, but a win is a win, and any win against pittsburgh is a good win.

Well, Billick is gone and that had to happen for progress to be made. With Billick at the helm, we will still be stuck with the McNair/Boller dilemma. However, to bring in new blood at the top means that any veteran could decide to go elsewhere. It could be that extra push that retires Ogden, and cuts both McNair and Boller to make room for our next QB, Troy Smith. That is salary cap money to be freed up, which will help us improve next season. Change the coach and change the QB. Although I have been against this change, I think it has to happen in order to facilitate progress.

Right now, there are too many names to make an educated guess, but the names that I think are at the top of the list are Rex Ryan and Mike Singletary. Of the other names to be mentioned, Bill Cowher will not take the job (what part of NORTH CAROLINA didn't you understand?). Jason Garrett (Cowboys offensive coordinator), Josh McDaniels (Patriots Offensive Coordinator), Jim Caldwell (Colts Assistant) and Jim Schwartz (Titans Defensive coordinator) are unlikely candidates, Plus the Ravens are probably not going to wait until their seasons are over with to talk with these guys.. Schottenheimer is a strong possibility if Bisciotti wants to play it safe, but I don't think he is that sort of owner. He wants results. Mariucci will clash with Bisciotti, which could produce results on the field, but end up in a short term assignment when they file for divorce. The only other name I have seen batted around so far (it is only Wednesday still) is Kirk Ferentz, (University of Iowa coach) who has strong ties to Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome but all the writing on the walls indicates that he likes his environs and is not interested in a jump to the no fun league. My guess is Rex Ryan gets his shot at the big time.

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Please let me know! Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!
