News and Personal Thoughts:
Ravens: McNabb has been traded to
the deadskins. I think that it is a mistake for Philly, but I REALLY hope it is
a bigger mistake for wershington... Mike Preston sees potential in snagging a TE
from Oklahoma who spent all of last season on the DL with a knee injury with our
first overall pick. It would be a learning job while Heap expires the last
season on his contract... Only Shayne Graham remains unsigned of the experienced
field goal kickers, should the Ravens decide to try and put up a challenge for
Billy Cundiff in the preseason. I don't see this happening.
Orioles: Season has started and the pre-season consensus is that we could have a Rookie of the Year in Brian Matusz. The rest is bad news with division winners likely to be the damn yankees, Minnesota and either Anaheim or Texas. Wild card is likely to go to Boston. In the National league, Philly is a likely repeat champion of both the division and the league, while St. Louis appears to be their biggest competitor. The also-rans are expected to be Colorado (but possibly the Dodgers), with Atlanta stealing the Wild Card.
Crystal Palace Baltimore F.C. (Home games at UMBC): Palace defeated Real Maryland 1-0, and then lost their rescheduled friendly match 5-2 to DC United reserves. The regular season start on Friday, April 16 at home against the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
Alouettes: Nothing to report.
Blast: Monterrey defeated Milwaukee for the MISL Championship, by a 12-6 score. The Blast were represented by 1 player on the 1st team All-MISL, and 2 players on the 2nd team All-MISL for the 2nd best showing in the league. Milwaukee lead the league with 5 players honored in all (1 1st team, and 4 2nd team). Philadelphia and Monterrey each had 2 first team players, while Rockford was not represented at all.
Mariners (See website for more details): The Mariners (4-0) had the week off this week, and will resume play on Sunday, April 11 in New Jersey (0-3), starting a 3 game road trip that will also take them to Reading (2-2) and Fayetteville (1-2).
Capitals (See website for more details): The Caps (52-15-12) have regained their balancing, winning their last 3 games against Atlanta, Columbus and Boston, clinching their first ever Presidents Cup (best record in the league). The caps will close-out the season against pittsburgh (45-26-7), Atlanta (34-32-13), and Boston (36-30-13). The regular season ends on Sunday, April 11.
Wizards (See website for more details): Former BALTIMORE Bullet, Gus Johnson been elected to the the 2010 class of the Basketball Hall of Fame. Gus played for Baltimore from 1963 through 1972, before splitting the 1972-1973 season between the Phoenix Suns (NBA) and the Indiana Pacers (ABA).
The Wizards (23-53) finally broke their 16 game losing streak by winning 2 of the last 3 games. Wins against New Orleans (35-43) and the lowly Jersey Nets (11-66) have boosted their Wizards pathetic record. The Wizards host Golden State (23-53), before hitting the road for games in Orlando (54-23), Boston (48-28), back home against Atlanta (49-27) and then at the Knicks (27-49) on Monday. The Regular season mercifully ends next Wednesday at home against Indiana (29-48). Half those games are win-able.
New Jersey and Minnesota (15-62) are the only two teams with worse records right now.
What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, nevermind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won't know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!
Although the NFL has not officially released their schedule for 2010, the matchups are predictable assuming a continuation of the current methodology.
