Special Guest: Joel Hampshire (Director of Charitable Contributions)

            Membership passed forward many recommendations for charities, the Board met with Joel and decided on “Animal Advocates of Howard County.”  Joel would like to thank everyone who submitted suggestions.  Ann Selnick was in attendance at the meeting and spoke regarding the organizations.  Animal Advocates of Howard County sterilize over 2,000 pets per year.  The number one killer of animals is homelessness.  They have literally decreased litters by their work.  Medical assistance is provided to low-income families, teach animal care at their facility, and provide their website free of charge.  They have 80 adoption board around the county.  25% of the dogs in the shelter are purebred.  There are also many adorable kittens and adult cats to adopt.

            Joel presented a $1,000 check to Ann Selnick.  Pictures were taken and will be on the website for your viewing pleasure.

 

Approval of Minutes – Pat Eikenberg (Recording Secretary)

            Minutes were placed on the President’s table.  Minutes approved.

 

Council Report – Ken Bauer

·                    There was a long report from Ed Young. 

·                    Council Bull Roast was a dismal failure.  They changed their date back to February.  One week after the Superbowl.  The date to follow soon.

·                    50/50 tickets for the Council Convention are available from Ken Bauer.  Please purchase.

·                    Money for the Council Convention from the Roost is due at their next Council meeting.

 

Convention Report – Dennis Colhouer (Vice President)

·                    Registration and t-shirt forms need to be by the next Council meeting so Dennis would like any Roost members to turn money into him by the 14th of April.

·                    Volunteers are need to chair all events (Volleyball, horseshoes, karaoke).

·                    Registration forms are available and t-shirt forms are available.  $50 registration fee, Council t-shirts are $8.  Theme this year is Raven’s Magic, The Spirit Continues.

 

Float Committee for Convention – Joe Marciano

·                    This year the float will be entered again in the “Novelty” entries.  Marching together as a group with a uniform look.  Willing to hang after meeting for suggestions.  Like to do a Nascar theme!!

·                    Need a budget – APPROVAL OF BUDGET OF $1,500.00 - YES

 

Membership – Mitch Hooper (Vice President – Membership and Shirt Monger)

·                    Sitting on 94 for few months now.  New member today.  Dodie Stewart – lives in Columbia for 7 years, retired, Ravens ticket holder since 1996.  She sits in Section 133.  Voted in – YES.

Treasurer’s Report – Mandy Young

·                    Scholarship - $4,087.97

·                    Operations - $8,490.02, $2,000 allocated to charities this balance is after $1,000 to Animal Advocates this evening.

·                    Audit was performed on March 7 by Pat Eikenberg, Mari Merzendorf and Joe Marciano.  Books are in wonderful shape.  Excellent job by Mandy Young.

 

Board Report – Chairman of the Board (VACANT)

·                    Ken gave report, Board met and decided on Animal Advocates of Howard County.

 

Director of Ways and Means – Toni Reese

·                    Raffle tickets will be available next meeting (April).  All members, as part of your requirement upon joining the Roost, are responsible for selling 5 raffle tickets.  This money is used to purchase a pair of season tickets to the Ravens games.

 

Bull Roast – Pat Eikenberg

·                    Would like to thank everyone for their help.  The Bull Roast was a success because of everyone working together.

·                    Shorty Miller sold the most tickets (51).  Thanks Shorty.

·                    Pat will do the Bull Roast next year.

 

Director of Charitable Contributions – Joe Hampshire

·                    Next month Joel will call the other Charities to see if they will attend to receive their checks.

 

 

Good and Welfare – Karen Suter (Not in Attendance)

·                    Mitch Hooper – Former member, Julie (Joseph) McCarthy and her husband Bill, gave birth to a new baby boy, William Neal McCarthy, 7lbs. 13oz and 20.5” long.  Congrats and good luck.

 

Director of Social Events – Frosty Volmer

·                    Orioles Game, May 13, is sold out.  Please pay for tickets.  He gets money, you get tickets.  Have fun.

·                    Golf Tournament – July 8, 2006, Hollow Creek Golf Course, Middletown, Maryland.  This is the 9th Annual.  Money from this fundraiser will go into the general fund, as like the Bull Roast.  Please keep in mind we make minimal money off the golfers and the majority of the money made is from the Hole sponsors.  Registration fee is $100/golfer, Hole sponsorship is $50.00.  As Roost members, please make a special effort to get hole sponsors.

New Business

·                    Information about Roost #44 golf outing during the convention will be available soon.

·                    Saturday, April 22, Hagerstown Extra Effort Banquet. 

·                    April 23 is the Port to Fort Walk to benefit “Believe in Tomorrow” and the Childrens Foundation.  Registration is $20 in advance and $25 day of event.  Mitch would like to invite all the people that like to walk to join him.  It’s a lot of fun.

 

Ravens Report – Bob Caldwell

·                    Bob gave a tremendous report.  Lots of bad and good news.  Please visit the website for the discussion.  Thanks Bob!!

 

Excursion Report – Frosty Volmer

·                    Roast trip will be to New Orleans.

·                    Ravens schedule will be out soon.

·                    April meeting will have more information.  However, schedule of payments will be the same: May (1st payment), July (2nd), and September (balance). 

·                    Frosty has made $100 deposit to New Orleans for the group tickets.  This is the only venue to require this.  When schedule comes out, he will call to reserve seats.  Couple of options (Upper deck - $32) (Lower deck - $50 to $70).  We probably sit in the $50 to $70 range. 

·                    Airfare likely to be $210 to $250 with one stop.  Trying to make trip very economical.  Cost should be around $450 to $550 (this includes 3 nights stay, airfare and game ticket.

·                    Hotels are being looked at.  Hotels within walking distance.   

·                    Discussion was held regarding people taking extended stay vacations while there.  Different packages are being looked at.   More discussion next meeting.
